Famous for its theme parks as well as it building blocks which children all over the world enjoy playing with, the Danish firm Lego opened its Legoland Park in Windsor, near London, in 1996 on the grounds of the Windsor Safari Park that went into receivership in 1992. It is the second Legoland Park to be opened, following the one that opened in 1968 in Billund Denmark. Legoland Windsor offers 50 interactive rides over 150 acres of land. Children and their parents will also enjoy the lego sculptures that can be seen all around the park.

Further to the North, in the outskirts of Birmingham, lays the Woodgate Valley Urban Farm. The farm is part of a Network of 59 urban farms and community gardens. As the farm is run by a charity, the entry fee comes under the form of a donation. The ideal time to visit the farm is during the summer holidays as it open until 6pm between June and September. It is a great way for children to enjoy a day out in the country whilst learning about farm animals and environmental issues.

Years ago it used to be easy enough to do just that and although security means it is not always possible today, there still are airlines that will allow you to buy a last minute ticket just by turning up at the airport.
